We commit to establish culture and practice where every individual feels equally seen, heard, developed, and engaged. Everyone deserves to participate in science free from harassment, racism, and hostility. Everyone has the right to feel welcomed as their authentic self and to safely engage in fieldwork. Everyone has the right to access information, resources, and opportunities that will enable their success, self-defined. Some actions we are taking:
We are educating ourselves through training and reading from diversity and equity scholars to help build lasting, meaningful practices.
We are implementing best practices for field work safety, including field vests, safety plans, and multiple reporting mechanisms
We are establishing active onboarding, peer mentorship and transparent information sharing practices.
We are implementing strategies that ensure opportunities for all, including paid internships, wide posting, and selection criteria that emphasize passion over experience.
We investigate the how and why of change in nature
We work towards an ecology that celebrates the interactions among biotic and abiotic dynamic phenomena, believes in the reciprocal interplay of basic theory and applied practice, and joins with diverse partners to solve the immense restoration and conservation challenges we face today.
